The Islands Around Phuket

Phuket is a city in southern Thailand, the capital of Phuket province. Even though Phuket is a beautiful place, the islands around it have their own unique beauty and natural wonder to discover. Here we present you the best islands to visit during your visit to the Pearl of Andaman.

Phi Phi Island

The island of Phi Phi is one of the most visited since Phuket or Krabi, especially since the film The Beach (2000) with Leonardo DiCaprio. This island is a popular destination for tourists who want to party on a tropical island. Speedboat transportation costs 2800 THB and lasts 50min. We advise you to spend two days to enjoy all that the island offers.

Coral Island

Coral Island is one of the few islands accessible in less than 15min from Phuket by speedboat. Just pay about 1200 THB for transportation and then you can enjoy this island and its white sand beaches. Nevertheless, because the island is close to Phuket, it’s not uncommon to meet many tourists. If you want to have quiet, go to Banana Beach, which is a 15min walk from the main beach. Don’t forget to bring a snorkel and go see the corals immersed in the turquoise water.

Similan Islands

These islands have only been open since October 2017, which preserves them from human development and makes them a true little paradise. They are quite far from Phuket, a hundred miles northwest, so you should take two days to enjoy its gorgeous landscapes. Note that of the nine islands that make up the Similan Islands, only three are accessible to the public. Also important to note, do not feed the fish, it could be worth you a large fine up to 100,000 THB!

Bon Island

This island is only 2 minutes by boat, south of Phuket. It’s not very big but has two beautiful beaches. If you spend the day there, don’t forget to eat at Dawn’s restaurant which is particularly famous for its tamarind shrimp and spicy sauce, which it will pick up every day in Phuket. The cost of a meal is around 200 THB.

James Bond Island

Since its appearance in the James Bond film, The Man with the Golden Gun, in 1974, the island has become a landmark to visit in the region. It’s located about 30min by boat, north of Phuket, and is definitely worth a visit.
